About The Artist

Jeremy was born in Minneapolis, USA and currently resides in Devon in the UK. After graduating from the University of Minnesota with a B.A. in Art with a focus on ceramics and sculpture in 1999, he spent a year in Oregon working with "at-risk" youth in the Cascade Mountains and then moved to Shanghai, China in 2000. It is in Shanghai that Jeremy opened the Hands in Clay Studio and Gallery in 2001. From 2001 to 2006, Jeremy made both functional and sculptural artworks and became recognized for his large scale sculptural work. He took part in shows in his gallery space and other spaces around Shanghai and gained notable attention as the first Western artist to open a ceramic studio in China. Jeremy took part in a show at the Duolun Contemporary Art Museum in Shanghai, where his work is now part of the permanent collection. Jeremy sold works to an international clientele from Europe, Scandinavia, Asia, the Middle East, and the Americas. Jeremy sold Hands in Clay Studio at the end of 2005 and travelled England, Scandinavia, and Europe in 2006. From 2007 to 2008, Jeremy moved back to the United States to pursue a Master of Education degree at the University of Minnesota. In 2008, he became qualified to teach Kindergarten through High School Visual Arts and also hold a Teacher Registration Number in England. Upon completion of his teaching qualification, Jeremy moved abroad and taught Art in American and International Schools in Vietnam, Kuwait, and Bahrain before moving to England in 2013. During his teaching years, Jeremy remained an active artist and created sculptures, paintings, drawings, and photography. After teaching GCSE Art and A Level Photography in Worcestershire during the 2013/14 academic year, Jeremy and his wife moved to Topsham in Devon, where Jeremy works primarily with pen, ink, and acrylic paint on paper.
