About The Artist
Born in Kagoshima Prefecture in 1943, Kamizono is engaged in popularizing the traditional Okinawan craft of Ryukyu bingata-zome (a style of cloth dying in which stencils are used to create colorful designs) in Hiroshima. Kamizono uses traditional Okinawan patterns and other completely different compositions to create a variety of diverse pieces including fabrics, kimonos, and framed works. Kamizono also engages in activities to promote peace through art.
