URPHANOMEN LILITH Acrylic o canvas 100 x 70 x 3 Lilith is a figure present in the ancient religions of Mesopotamia and the first Jewish religion, which could have known her by the Babylonians, or translated by the female deity Sumerian Ninlil, meaning "Lady of the Air". Often seen as a demon associated with the storm, for the ancient Jewish Lilith was Adam's wife. Lilith is, therefore, an extremely powerful archetype, pure energy center of the matriarchal society that worships the Mother Goddess, and embodies the woman who chooses to be herself, whatever the price to pay. At the end of the nineteenth century, with the increasing grip of awareness of women, the figure of Lilith becomes the symbol of female power free from any subjection, the return to the Great Mother. "She gonna take you thru the tunnel of night / Lilywhite Lilith, / She gonna lead you right," sing the Genesis in the concept album, The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway transfiguring the rebellious Lilith in the angel of Light at the end of the tunnel.
