About The Artist

Self taught artist, Albert Carter, was born in Washington, D.C. and raised in Covington, VA. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served for 20 years and obtained his Bachelor’s in Occupational Technology and a Master’s Degree in Organizational Business Management. He has been happily married for 34 years. As a child, Al enjoyed drawing but his true talent was unearthed after he received an art set from his sister and fostered by his high school art teacher who believed in his abilities. Al spent countless hours in his room experimenting with different color combinations and different mediums such as charcoal, pastels, watercolors, and then oil and as time progressed, his style and technique matured as well. Experimentation led to discovery and Al finally found his niche. His first works stemmed from his appreciation of nature and its inherent beauty. His style then progressed to incorporating expressionism and African American Art, and attempting to capture the look and feel of the culture. Al placed in local art competitions for his works in this area. Eventually Al began experimenting with abstracts and textures and with this addition to his skill set his art took new life.
