About The Artist
Mariana Ivanova is a Californian artist specialized in cross stitch art. An important feature of her works is that they are created with a needle and a thread instead of a brush. Her unique art presents pictures translated into cross stitching.
Walking the streets of cities around the world she gets inspired by street lamps and lanterns with their lights, beauty, elegance, and a lit of bit mystery. Light and darkness are always presented in her art. Her works combine her interest in visual art, cross stitching, and street culture.
Creating an original cross stitched picture is a difficult work involving the creation of a pattern digitally on a computer and effective sewing. Photos are digitally edited and converted into cross stitching patterns. Patterns are then exported, printed, cross stitched and transformed into unique works of art. Depending on the complexity and the dimensions of the picture, a work can take from one to several months. Mariana usually has an archive of photographs she's taken and she uses for a basis. In some cases she uses her imagination.
Mariana's works were exhibited in numerous exhibitions throughout the USA and, as well online and were featured in art magazines.
Mariana Ivanova was born in Bulgaria. Currently she resides in Orange County, California with her family and stubborn Cairn Terrier dog.
