About The Artist
Born in 1948 in Nagano Prefecture, Fumiko Kato is a quilt artist using old fabrics like kimono, obi (traditional Japanese sash) and sake (Japanese rice wine) bags to create works based on the themes of vitality, dynamism and energy. Kato will use any material she finds interesting and changes her techniques depending on that. Even unevenly dyed parts on the fabric serves as hints for her artistic creation.
