About The Artist
Born in Kyoto Prefecture in 1939, Miyazaki is a cutout and inlay artist. He developed kirie zogan giho ("cutout inlay technique"), a new artistic method which involves cutting thin pieces of tatara clay of differing colors into a picturesque design and inlaying them in a soft clay base. Miyazaki creates the pieces entirely by himself, starting with his own design and performing with his own hands the forming, glazing, and firing. He is currently primarily showing in solo exhibitions.
