About The Artist
Barry Osbourn was born October 7th, 1967 in Kansas City, Missouri and currently lives and works at his home studio in Olathe, Kansas. The son of an architect, Barry was surrounded by drafting tables and art materials from a very early age. When he was three years old his parents enrolled him in an art based preschool at the Nelson Atkins Museum and he has pursued a creative life in visual art ever since. He has acquired an extensive academic record beginning with a BFA in Graphic Design from the University of Kansas and resolving with a Masters of Fine Art degree in Painting from Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles, California. Barry Has a respectable history of gallery showings in Boston, Los Angeles, and Kansas City. In addition to his studio practice, Osbourn has also maintained a freelance graphic design practice, worked in art education, and designed work for art publishers for many years.
“Ultimately, my overall studio practice is about identity. Whether we consider the places we live, our experiences in life, our academic knowledge, our physical bodies, or the various medias we consume and internalize; we are pointing to the components of who we are. While my work often takes up different subjects, the thread of continuity running through it is this exploration of identity formation.
