ARTIST STATEMENT Jan Carlson is an innovative watercolour artist who continuously experiments with new techniques. The common characteristic linking her paintings is colour intensity. She creates vibrant works by painting in her trademark wet on wet technique. She is also well known for field flower paintings. Jan held her first solo exhibition in 2006 at Royal Queensland Arts Society. Since 2007 she has been a guest artist in residence at Hamilton Island Art Gallery where she holds regular exhibitions. She has taught watercolours for several years and regularly conducts workshops conveying her enthusiasm and passion for painting and shares her unique techniques with students. Jan’s artwork has been recognised in numerous competitions and her work is held in private collections in Australia and overseas.
