Water – Light and Shadow
Mahmudul Hoque Moni
Water is beautiful, so are livelihoods in the water. Water makes the most beautiful light and shadow. The first photograph shows two guys going for fishing on a boat in a mystic Haor (large lake) in eastern Bangladesh. I captured the light and shadow constructed with humans, bamboos, and fresh water in an afternoon. The second photograph tells the story of polluted water. I took the photo in the river Buriganga which holds the most polluted and black water. Yet the light and shadow created by ducks, bamboos and water beautify the canvas in one afternoon. Light often represents the education of minds, while shadow often signifies the darkness of the mind. Clean water means life, we need to educate ourselves on how to use them with care and mindfulness. Polluting water is suicidal.
