Purple Heron

Why this bird was named Purple Heron, I am not at all sure. The Heron part is obvious, but purple? Seems a bit much . Never mind, it's a beautiful bird and I am a big heron fan. This one looks like a mini version of the Goliath Heron, who's name does make sense, largest of the herons at 1,5 meters. In this painting I am including reeds and water, it makes the bird stand out more and I enjoy those elements anyway. PRICE $1,272.00 unframed Prices include postage within South Africa.
