ANNE WREN NYE 816 W. Mid Way St., Coolidge AZ 85128 PH: 402-763-4659 Email: anne@annenye.com Web site: http://www.annenye.com “I am passionate about using nature as a springboard to create a sense of wonder and awareness of our connection to the land. In my current work the glass is manipulated respectfully probing the boundaries of the medium, into a painterly topographical abstraction. The multiple low firings create an interaction of textures inviting the viewer in close enough to touch and question, and then to step back and view the whole. As I create, I find myself reopening old perceptions deeply rooted in childhood but nearly buried by our busy technological world. My hope is that this work might cause the observer to see both nature and glass in a new way.” Anne Nye studied fine art at the University of Idaho and California College of the Arts and University of Idaho in the 60’s, completing course work for a BFA. She worked as a graphic designer and illustrator for many years and in 1997 began working as a full time artist. Since 2000, Anne has worked primarily on her own in kiln formed glass developing her painterly style and techniques. In 2013 she attended her first BeCon (Bullseye Glass Conference) and shortly afterward took classes from Narcissus Quagliata and Ted Sawyer. These events brought new excitement and urgency to Anne’s work, culminating in a very successful Solo Show, which focused on reactive glass and her palette knife painting technique. 2014 took her to an invitational residency at Pilchuck led by Steve Klein and Richard Parrish opening many new possibilities and friendships. After many years in the Mid West, Anne and her husband, Richard, moved home and studio to Coolidge, Arizona where she is part of the emerging Artisan Village of Coolidge, heading up the Glass Studio and newly formed AZ Glass Guild. Anne’s work has been written up in several national magazines including Art Connoisseur and Western Art Collector as well as several local publications. She was a featured artist in Glass Art Magazine, July/August 2013. In the last few years, Anne has been in high demand as an instructor. She has taught at Ed Hoy in Chicago, D&L Art Glass in Denver, Atlanta and Omaha. In 2015 she has teaching engagements at Arrowmont in TN, Winnipeg Canada and Arizona. She also conducts select one-on-one mentoring/teaching workshops in her home studio each year.
