Sobre el Artista

My Given Name is Richard Sanders Jr. Kuumo Anaji (Multi Gifted) was suggested to me by my late African Friend & Fellow Artist, Jomo Yabi because of my interests in Painting, Poetry & Playing Percussion Instruments. My Father, Richard Sanders, was the first Black Owner/Operator of a Sign Business on Long Island, New York (Freeport/Huntington) in the 40's, where I grew up crawling through & then tripping over paint cans. He could also sketch your caricature in sixty seconds & anyone who knew you would be able to identify it immediately. He passed away in 1971, never seeing me start my own sign business in 1976 & go on until 1995, when my first bout with Cancer (Prostate) slowed it considerably. In 2003, I was diagnosed with Lung Cancer & after loosing my left lung, I retired. While recuperating, a Red Cross Volunteer (who happened to be the Mayor's wife) in Davidson, North Carolina, saw my doodling & was impressed. She told her husband about my artwork & I was given a One Artist's Show at the Town Hall Rotunda. It was my intro into The Art World. I moved here, to Albuquerque, NM in 2008, where I live presently. My plans are to move to Mebane, N.C. early Next Year. I will be celebrating my 75th birthday 12/9/15. More of my work can be seen on Facebook, in Albums, under Photos. Kuumo Anaji
