“Splendor Through the Glass” Architectural glass block is used as a unique filter that photographer/painter, Polly Norman shoots her subjects through. These amorphic images are captured in black and white, printed on fiberbased photographic paper and finally hand-colored. Norman says,“A fascination with objects warped through filters, glass and reflective surfaces combined with a passion for symbolic nonrepresentational imagery inspire this collection, which has been described as flowing and kinetic.” This year her work was included in the Fifth National Print Biennial, Katherine Nash Gallery (U of M) and Tweed Museum, Duluth. Norman’s work traveled to the Pingyao International Photography Festival in China last fall and was purchased by Museum Louvre It Or Leave It in Minneapolis. Polly was a finalist for the McKnight Foundation Photography Fellowship and is currently represented by Flanders Contemporary Art, Minneapolis and Perfect Pear Gallery, Chicago. She teaches hand-coloring black & white photos at the Edina Art Center. Norman and her works were featured in the October, 2006 issue of Edina Magazine, the May, 2007 issue of Metro Magazine and the May 18, 2007 issue of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. www.pollynormanart.com
