Sobre el Artista
KIM ANNA SMITH (B. 1982, LONDON) IS A MULTI-DISCIPLINARY ARTIST OF ENGLISH AND SWEDISH DESCENT. IN ORDER TO HONE HER CRAFT SMITH SPENT A YEAR IN THE STUDIO OF HER MENTOR, FINE ARTIST, RAFAL ZAWISTOWSKI.
CENTRAL THEMES WITHIN HER WORK INCLUDE THE COLLECTIVE HUMAN EXPERIENCE AND THE BEAUTY THAT LIES WITHIN THE VULNERABILITY AND STRENGTH OF THE HUMAN CONDITION.
SMITH’S ONGOING BODIES OF WORK TOY WITH THE NOTION OF GAZE AND NEGOTIATE THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE SEEN AND UNSEEN, THE VISIBLE AND INVISIBLE. INTRIGUED BY THE EMOTIONAL TUG OF WAR WITHIN OURSELVES HER WORK IS BOTH INTROSPECTIVE, AND, AT TIMES SOCIO-POLITICAL. THUS HER OFTEN CHOSEN MATERIALS —CHARCOAL THROUGH TO NEON— ASSUME A POWERFUL SIGNIFICANCE IN THEIR CONTRASTING EFFECTS.
HER WORK HAS BEEN SHOWN AT NUMEROUS EXHIBITIONS INCLUDING THOSE AT LIGHTS OF SOHO, LAWRENCE ALKIN GALLERY, SOHO HOUSE GROUP, GOLBORNE GALLERY AND MANY OTHERS. SHE WAS RECENTLY SELECTED TO SHOW A LARGE-SCALE POSTER REPRODUCTION OF HER ACCLAIMED TWILIGHT-BLUE NEON PIECE – ‘DREAMERS’ THROUGHOUT THE LONDON UNDERGROUND DURING FRIEZE WEEK AND BEYOND, VIA ART BELOW.
