Sobre el Artista

The art practice of my studio, in Warrandyte, is based on projects. A project is stimulated by issues, events and activities that interest me, and that I along with our wider community have strong concerns for. Many of my projects are concerned with Cultural Belief Systems, related rituals and the impact of human interaction with the environment. When I start a project, I investigate ways in which to express the message I wish to convey. I utilize many different materials and collaborate with artisans skilful in the use of such materials. Some projects have included the use of everyday elements: such as fabric, lights, rice, bowls, bottle tops and organic materials. Several recent projects have included collaboration with artisans, utilising ceramic, marble, resin and acrylics. Photography, lighting and sound have been specific to several projects. Currently my main interest is The Boat Project which is presented in a range of interpretations, including Origami paper boats, installations, silkscreen printing and collage. My latest artwork during isolation is described in the Artist Statement: Early in our isolation I had read statements that ‘we are all in this together’ and ‘we are all in the same boat’. Perhaps we are in the same boat, OR not. In that respect I created an artwork particularly relevant to COVID-19. This restrictive time has had many ups for some and many downs for others. As we ride the waves of our life journey it is encouraging to know that whatever type of vessel or deck that we are placed, our friends and family are supportive along the way. Thanks to the Beatles for the artwork title. And all our friends are aboard.
