Sobre el Artista

Mathieu Josset is a french artist based in Versailles. His passion for afro-caribbean culture took all of its meaning when he first stepped in Africa, more precisely in Bamako in 2009. There, he discovered a world of sharing, a spirit of fraternity, people engaging in passionate conversations and breathtaking landscapes, which he fell in love with. A true calling which will later bring him back to this very rich land that is Africa. Roaming the entire continent, from Niger's riverbanks to Cameroon's luxurious forests, passing through the Gulf of Guinea's vibrant capital cities, everything becomes a great source of inspiration. All around you, you feel the mesmerizing culture that is Africa; a culture of traditions, beliefs and myths. Fabric is for him the symbol of this colorful, vibrant African life. Its traditional patterns represent the roots of the African culture. Wax, bazin, Kente and madras fabric to create an exciting color palette. The folding technique he has devised allows him to make these patterns its own and create new ones. He wishes to tell ancestral tales as well as contemporary stories, stories of an ever-growing Africa, transforming and conquering the world, rich from its traditions and from its innovative youth. The work of Mathieu Josset; because it is a work in the sense of an artisanal design and manufacturing process, of a commitment to quality reflecting an effective know-how, is a humble and nostalgic tribute. A tribute to the work of the weavers. Those who share time, life, culture and heritage in their artefact. Mathieu, far from appropriating their work, tries to pay tribute to him and to sketch the time, laborious, of a few folds the possibility of a meeting. What he imagined in his heart and the memories of his travels. Visit the website: www.mathieujosset.com
