Sobre el Artista
For over 30 years Muriel Stockdale enjoyed an extensive and varied career designing costumes and scenery for distinguished companies like Disney, The Jim Henson Company, CTW, NBC, CBS, PBS, ABC, The Public Theatre and dozens of US and European regional theaters. Muriel was also a valued member of the teaching faculty at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, Graduate Design Department for fourteen years.
Since 2003 she has been creating her series of USA flags that celebrate the diverse cultures represented in the United States. Sixteen of her flags are permanently installed in the lobby of 315 Hudson Street, NYC courtesy of Jack Resnick and Sons. Over the last 20 years flags have been shown all over New York with solo shows hosted by Chashama, LaGuardia College, the Queens Libraries, Bloomberg’s Immigrant Heritage Week, Stony Brook University, Trinity Church Wall Street and Martha Stewart’s, Made in America Summit. The flags have also exhibited in New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Connecticut. The New Britain Museum of American Art in New Britain, CT now owns the original and first flag made.
In recent years Muriel has pivoted her art focus to include portraits with the intent of celebrating the diverse individuals in her circle of friends and family. She has won numerous awards for her paintings in the last few years.
