Sobre el Artista
Catharina Goldnau explores transitions, juxtaposing traditions and materials in sculptural work that borders functionality. Following a life-long passion, she left a teaching career to study Ceramics at Sheridan College under Linda Sormin and Laura Kukkee. Catharina was awarded the Gardiner Museum Award for her work at the Graduating Show in 2018 and was subsequently featured in a solo exhibition at the Gardiner Museum.
Catharina continues to innovate, exploring non-traditional ways of working with ceramic materials and forms. Her work often uses small batches of custom clays that are enriched with a selection of organic and inorganic additions. Mixing alternate materials and post-firing treatment of the surface enhance the unusual texture and earthiness of the material. Oxides and glaze rubs provide richness of colour before the final firing.
