Sobre el Artista

Davina Hsu was born in 1981. She discovered art in her native Taipei. Upon graduation from Fu-Shing High School, a prominent art school in Taiwan, she moved to New York to study at Parsons. As Hsu explored New York, she felt liberated. She feels her life holds great promise here. Hsu came into her own as a person and as an artist as she honed her craft at Parsons. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts there in 2009. She has exhibited in various group shows including virtual and bricks and mortar galleries. Hsu’s aesthetic world is seductive, beautiful and unique. She expresses her curiosity about the human mind and how it affects behavior in a given context. Hsu’s work stems from an examination of beauty in all of its forms. Most of her work is about people and there is a strong undercurrent of social commentary in her compositions. In questioning beauty, whether idealized or not, Hsu portrays people who are strangers in order to mirror her own concerns or obsessions including the blurring of gender lines. All of her work is a visual dialectic on the human dilemma; self-analysis and physicality are woven tightly with inspiration. Hsu has adopted New York as a continued source of inspiration to help her to strengthen her creative drive and energy. She welcomes this opportunity to showcase her views about life and art. Hsu lives and paints in New York City.
