Sobre el Artista

I was born and raised in Tokyo, Japan during an era in which my gender was discouraged from seriously pursuing any creative paths. Nevertheless, a spark was somehow ignited in me as a child, urging me to explore art and to continue drowning out the noise insisting I do otherwise. Today, I am a printmaker and painter. I obtained my B.F.A in Fine Arts from San Jose State University, and I specialize in monoprints. I combine several techniques like etching, monotype, chine-collé, and photo transfer. For paintings, I mainly use oil and encaustic. My work falls under abstract and symbolic art. I am interested in how the past and present intersect, and what tensions emerge as a result. I often find myself in a process of re- articulating and re-organizing my identity as an artist, mother, citizen, and human.
