Sobre el Artista

Joyce K. Jensen's award-winning watercolors are known for their detailed realism, and the depth and brilliance of their colors. Joyce explains, "I achieve depth of color through layering and glazing, often applying a dozen or more careful glazes to a single item. This also contributes to the dimensionality of my work." Though known for her watercolors, Joyce has also begun working in oil and acrylic. Born in Illinois in 1945, Joyce moved to central Indiana with her husband in 1966. Although she studied art in her youth, she didn't become a full-time professional artist until her mid-50s, after raising her family and spending a decade as a free-lance writer. She earned a BA with Highest Distinction from Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis. Though primarily self-taught as an artist, she has taken workshops with Lois Davis, Doug Daniel, James Toogood and Birgit O'Connor. Her paintings have been published in The Artist's Magazine "Competition Spotlight"; the 2012 Artist's Magazine Calendar; International Artist magazine; and Splash 8: Watercolor Discoveries from North Light Books. Her work appears regularly in national and regional exhibitions, and has been juried into the Indiana Artisan program.
