Sobre el Artista
Undefined
a soul which has thirst for colour,
some fingers which are hungry for canvas,
a brain which imagine the unseen !
a heart which draw the unknown !
a DNA which is addicted for a new creation !
a man in his canvas is in perfection.
Tithi Goswami
Poet & Drama Artist, Kolkata, India
Prasanna Chaudhuri is one of the very few self qualified realist artists who rewarded with the Award of Excellence ‘Dr. U. C. NAG MEMORIAL AWARD’ from Indian Society of Oriental Art In 2009, for his marvelous Oil painting ‘The Broken Doll’ which reflects an insightful supremacy of realism that rarely seen in modern art.
Over the last decade Prasanna has exhibited in several solo exhibitions, duo exhibitions, group exhibitions, sponsored exhibitions, participation exhibitions, art fares and workshops in the leading art galleries throughout India and abroad.
He is one of the finalist participant of CIMA AWARD SHOW 2014. which is now on desplay at CIMA art gallery, Studio 21, Ram Dulary Park and Academy of Fine Arts from 14th March 2015 to 12 th April 2015, organised by CIMA art gallery Pvt. Ltd. Kolkata.
In his first participation in the international art exhibition in Toronto, Canada, Prasanna has been recognized as an eminent artist of the STUDIO VOGUE GALLERY.
Eminent Contemporary Artist and The Director of STUDIO VOGUE GALLERY, Toronto, Canada, Mrs. Joyce Fournier said...... "Chaudhuri's figurative works in oil exude a warmth and passion all their own. His remarkably realistic portrayal of children gives the viewer a sense of familiarity of subject even though the two have not met. Chaudhuri's figures exude a compelling innocence reminiscent of the 'Great Masters' yet with a contemporary flair. The direct gaze of his subjects, at a specific moment of time as they play, draws the viewer into their world, small as it may be. Such a sensitive mastery of realism is today rarely seen in contemporary art."
Prasanna was born and brought up in railway colony of Kanchrapara, West Bengal, India. From the beginning of his childhood, painting was the part and parcel of Prasanna's life. Prasanna was grown up with plenty of colours in a very creative environment, as all of his family members and close relatives were associated with different cultural activities like arts, singing, dancing, playing Tablas and dramas, etc.
On the other hand, Prasanna became a renowned hockey player. He was very busy with his practice schedules and participating in different tournaments throughout India (1987–1996). But, he was not a trespasser in the art world as he managed his off time like a dredge for keeping in touch with the fine arts world and generated his own style of paintings. The injury on his left knee appeared like a blessing of God on him which turned a hockey player to an artist again ….as man cannot deny his destiny.
As Prasanna started focusing on contemporary art, he joined Indian Society of Oriental Art for Life Study Course, and got the Blessings of eminent artist Sri Barid Goswami and Sri. Suddarshan S. Benegal (Eminent Artist and The Jt. Secretary & Teacher-in-charge Indian Society of Oriental Art.) as his Guru and learned more about the academic & technical aspects & ideas of fine arts and molded to a different ideology.
In the eye of Sri Benegal, “Prasanna Chaudhuri turned his hockey stick to paint brush and in no time at all was able to show good promise, he had alwas revealed a different interpretation in his work".
Prasanna also achieved Shilpa Ratna in Fine Arts from Sarbabharatiya Sangeet-O-Sanskriti Parisad, in the year 2005-06.
On the other perspective it appears that Prasanna is not only a Figurative and Portrait artist who categorizes his works as a combination of Academic Art and Contemporary Hyperrealism but also a versatile artist who executed his works in several media and style of the artists manual with a different ideology. He also takes deep observation on the social and political atmosphere which reflects on his works and influence to change his ideology time to time.
His technique could be treated as being modern in the sense that it takes the help of fast developing technology and strictly honest to an artist’s manual approach and medium.
Prasanna’s Landscapes, Figurative works and commissioned portraits are found in Government, private and public collections in India, Bhutan and USA. His work has been featured on several occasions in the prestigious magazines and newspapers in India.
