Sobre el Artista
Donna Webb, professor at the M.S.A., since 1981, teaches ceramics and history of craft. Webb received her MFA degree from the University of Michigan in ceramics and drawing and has completed course work toward the MA in Ceramic History at Staffordshire University.
She is a potter, sculptor and tile maker. She has created large scale mosaic tile installations and fountains -- unique compositions of sculpture, tile, wood and water -- in public sites since 1991. Her work in glaze formulation has resulted in mosaics in which color is used in a painterly way. Since 2011 Webb has collaborated with Dr. Jean Marie Hartman professor in the Department of Landscape Architecture at Rutgers University. Their work investigated the idea of water from both a scientist and artist point of view. Webb’s piece, Spill was a continuation of this investigation.
Webb was the recipient of an individual Artists Fellowship from the Ohio Arts Council, honored as an Emerging Artist by the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts and received the Akron Area Arts Alliance Arts Alive! Outstanding Arts Educator Award. She is a founding member of Synapse Center for Art and Science as well as a member of the Color Line Project. Synapse promotes collaboration between artists and scientists. The Color Line Project uses storytelling about race, archives the stores and encourages the use of the stories in disciplines across campus.
She has exhibited and written about ceramics in venues locally, regionally and internationally including Kokoon Gallery, Harris Stanton Gallery and William Busta Gallery, Cleveland, Alexandre Hogue Gallery, Tulsa, OK., Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities, Arvada, CO, Ceramics Technical, Australia and Culture, Identity and Art in the Age of Globalization, Istanbul. Her work is published in The Art of Mosaic Design: A Collection of Contemporary Artists, by JoAnn Locktov, 1998, The Penland Book of Ceramics: Masters of Techniques, ed., by Deborah Morgenthal, 2000, Mosaic Style by JoAnn Locktov, 2004, Ceramics Technical, 2006, 500 Tiles by Angelica Pozo, 2007 and 500 Figures in Clay, vol. 2 by Nan Smith, 2014.
