About The Artist
I am a professional artist located in the historic city of Albany on the south coast of West Australia. With over 25 years in the arts industry since completing a Fine Arts degree at Curtin University in Perth in 1988, my experience has ranged from public art projects, arts consultation, community arts, and exhibition curation. I have also worked nationally and internationally as a community arts worker and artist-in-residence.
For the last five years my focus has been on “This Papercut Life”, a creative business that has increasingly grown in size and success. Through this I design and create contemporary papercut and woodcuts, jewellery, art objects, designs for public spaces, and distinctive logos. As well as handcutting large paper artworks, I also use lasercutting to cut and etch my designs in paper, perspex, wood and occasionally metal. The themes of my work generally are community, environment, and family- with a storytelling aspect, while using a playful and figurative style that both adults and children strongly relate to.
My work is commissioned by both the corporate and private sectors, and I stock many high profile shops and galleries around Australia including Aspects of Kings Park (WA), Gunyulgup Galleries (WA), The National ANZAC Centre (WA), and Manyung Galleries (VIC) to name a few.
I have received numerous awards and have exhibited widely including: 2015: Best Rural Artist @ The Perth Royal Art Show; City of Perth commission to create an artwork commemorating the Perth/ Houston Sister City 30th Anniversary, gifted to the mayor of Houston, 2014; Best Rural Artist, Perth Royal Art Show 2013; Artist in Residence, Aspects of Kings Park, 2013; Highly Commended in both the 2012 Cossack Art Prize and the 2012 Centenial Art Prize; the “Celebrating Albany” and “Most Popular Artist” Awards, Centennial Art Prize, Albany in 2011; and an Australia Council for the Arts Residency Award in 2003.
My work is represented in many public and private collections.
