Hammersley Oenone

About The Artist

Award winning artist Oenone Hammersley has been exhibiting regularly since 1980, with shows in USA, Europe, Australia and Africa. Oenone works both in watercolour and gouache on paper and in oil on canvas. Her recent semi-abstract oil paintings are unique in style and retain the intense colour of her previous more traditional wildlife scenes. The foregrounds of the paintings are extremely realistic, gradually becoming abstracted toward the background. These paintings have won awards of excellence in Washington DC and are both colourful and fantastical. You become lost in a fantasy world that is powerfully intriguing. Deriving inspiration from her extensive travels, expeditions to Southeast Asia, Africa, India and Latin America, Oenone is committed to furthering the cause of conservation through her work and involvement with organizations such as World Land Trust and Flora and Fauna International. Museum and public building acquisitions of Oenone's work include the Shell Museum on Crete, The American Embassy Canberra, and the private collection of the Guggenheim families. Oenone Hammersley was born in England in 1957 and studied theatre design at Wimbledon College of Art, followed by printmaking at the City Literary Institute. She is married and lives in Virginia, USA. website: http://www.oenonehammersley.com
