“The Hit-man” Wyatt Harrison, 2022 Lino print, charcoal, mixed media on board. Sir Isaac Newton said, “to every action, there is always an opposite or equal reaction”. The recognisable Everlast icon was used to create an unconventional self-portrait that is in response to action and reaction in a combat sport. The one-to-one scale was a purposeful choice for my self-portrait. This shows the gritty and messy feelings that a fighter has before a fight, as the details did not have to be accurate and precise. By punching the Everlast lino stamp repetitively, it shows how during training it is imperative to have repetition for improvement. Being a fighter myself, the emotions of nervousness, pain and anger that I have felt, during training and before a fight in the past were reflected on as I created this self-portrait. Through making this artwork, I intend to give the viewer a small glimpse into the emotions of combat sportsmen throughout training and life.
