Scent hounds bred to hunt rabbits. The name Basset is derived from the French word bas, meaning low. Watching one being taken for a walk the other day, I was surprised to see how low and long they are. What a sad looking face, if he had a begging bowl I'm sure I would have put money in to try and make him feel better. Better not tell the tramps, they will be stealing all the Bassets.
