About The Artist

I was born in the early 1960’s, and grew up in a rural environment where I learnt to appreciate and admire the natural beauty of God’s creation whilst enjoying a simple lifestyle. I am a Christian and proudly profess this choice. As a child I always enjoyed capturing moments in my or other people’s lives on paper, sometimes in detail and other times in naïve expressed form. I started to focus more on my art talent in the late 1970' when I started to establish myself in the art environment. My work, which is a combination of modern impressionistic and naïve expressionistic styles, is characterised by a sense of restfulness, peace and simplicity with which I identify myself. My love for and knowledge of nature and people, and the simplicity of life, is captured in my work and my art portrays the inner tranquillity of the artist in me. I want to create and establish my own view of art, not following what someone else had done. I do not want to paint what could be learned from others, I want others to learn from me. I want to be myself. My work enables me to express joyful moments in people’s lives in a very naïve manner, using bright colours, and expressing movement through using different brush strokes and canvas mixes of colour. The works are characterised by themes with which I can identify myself, and colours that contradict reality. With each of my paintings I want to express moments in a way that children would express them, innocent and creative, proud of their work, visible and understandable, but free from rules and realism. This style enables me to think back to my own childhood when children were still children, and grown-ups could still go about enjoying life. I want my work to tell people something about what I have experienced at a point in time, through a piece of art that will brighten up people’s lives, homes, offices and other environments. It is peaceful and joyful, and I want people to see and feel this through my art. I currently reside in New Beith, Queensland, Australia where I practice art and teache art to people with an interest in this field.
