About The Artist

I am an Iraqi-Canadian contemporary artist. I started my talent in painting while I was at the age of 5 and have passionately continued doing so. Painting is an innate need for me, it is part of who I am - the canvas, the brush, the splatter of paints all over... they are what makes me Alia. Being away from my native country Iraq has created a sense of an ever lasting nostalgia, specifically that Iraq has been through so much agony and destruction. This has burdened me and I feel as an artist, it is my duty to portray what I feel - after all, that is how artists express their feelings, through their work. I do not follow a certain school, for I believe each subject and art work has a story and style of its own, that is why I do abstract realism which is a broader style.
