About The Artist

I describe myself as a contemporary realist painter and scientist. My background includes classical training in old world techniques and experimenting with contemporary modes of expression. My work as an artist has been influenced by many years in medical research and teaching as a professor of human anatomy and pathology in medicine. Working in experimental pathology has encouraged me to be creative and yet methodical. I often adapt and combine classical and modern techniques and materials in my compositions. Art and science are often one in my life. There is beauty to be found in the microscopic world as well as within the people around me. While planning and painting a composition, I strive to draw the viewer into the work through the personality of the subject. There is often an interplay of ideas on several levels for the viewer to contemplate. Viewers may accept or reject my work in light of individual experiences and expectations.
