About The Artist
Artist’s Statement: Martha Ann Kennedy
Painting is my very heart. Whatever else I do and wherever I wander, I come back to painting and love it more.
In 2014 I moved back to Colorado -- my home state -- after living in the San Diego area for three decades. After living in the mountains east of San Diego for eleven years, I knew I didn't want to live in a big city again, so when I returned to Colorado, I looked for a small town. I fell in love with the San Luis Valley and found the perfect house in Monte Vista, between two mountain ranges near the Rio Grande. The beauty of the Valley is far more than I imagine ever being able to paint -- but who knows? I know that the valley will paint me.
I'm a member of the Monte Arts Council and a member of the Valley Artist's Coop. I look forward to showing new work in new spaces.
For the past few years, my work has been chosen to exhibit in juried shows. First my small painting, Cornflowers, was chosen to exhibit in the San Diego County Fair in Del Mar. Then, my painting The World is Out There was chosen to exhibit in the San Diego Museum of Art Artist's Guild fall show, "Contemporary Expressionism: the Creative Spirit" at the Lyceum Gallery in Horton Plaza.
I've also exhibited my work with the Julian Artists Guild in Julian, California, for the past few years. I've done illustration work for Mission Trails Regional Park in San Diego. In 1981 I had a successful one-person show in Denver in 1981 (and the next year I went to China to teach English!).
I work in a variety of media -- love working with watercolor, acrylics, and have studied Buon Fresco! I've shown and sold work in linoleum cuts -- inspired by Picasso's which I saw in the National Gallery years ago. I like learning new techniques and using new media that push me to see things in a new way. I love painting custom murals and furniture.
All work I have posted here is original and done by me and, as such, I retain all rights to the use of this work.
