About The Artist
I am a plein-air style painter and that means I always paint on location where I can see my subject in real life. The advantage of painting on location is that my eyes can see many colors and details allowing me to maintain a strong relationship with the scene. I usually prefer to paint subjects that inspire me. Being in nature, painting under the sun and in the fresh air is so relaxing and enjoyable, everything is so delicate and elegant.
I am motivated and energized by nature as I paint. For each painting, I have about 2 to 3 hours to create the work that depict nature as I see it. If I cannot complete the painting, I will come back the next day at the same time to continue the painting to keep the lighting and shadow effect the same.
I am very much influenced by Russian plein air painting as well as California impressionism. My idols are Ilya Repin, John Singer Sargent, Joaquin Sorolla and Edgar Paine.
I am affiliated with the Southern California Plein Air Painters Association, Laguna Plein Air Painters Association, San Gabriel Fine Arts Association, Orange County Fine Arts Association, and the California Art Club. Although I have won awards in plein air competitions, my goal is to paint my own painting. I try my best to use permanent material for my paintings so that they will last a long time.
