Esther Newman-Cohen is a highly creative Israeli-based artist. She engages in a wide range of artistic activity, including drawing, painting and woodcarving. Her subjects range from abstract to realistic portraits and landscapes of Israel, done in a variety of media – pencil, ink, aquarelle, soft and oil pastels, acrylic and oil. Her style ranges from impressionist to expressionist to realistic to abstract, depending on the artist's interpretation of the subject.
Esther Newman-Cohen grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio. She holds five academic degrees. She graduated from Columbia University and the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York where she also attended the Art Students' League. After moving to Israel, she graduated from the Hebrew University with a BA in law and a doctorate in International Relations. While raising her family and teaching law, she attended art classes at the Israel Museum (with Rori Allweiss and Tami Bezaleli) and the Popular University (with Eli Niago and Chava Epstein). In the past four years she has studied wood sculpturing with Jack Goodman of Moshav Neve Ilan. She is currently a member of the Mevaseret Zion Artist Association and participates weeky in the Motsa group of artists.
