About The Artist
Joe Hush was born in Rothbury, England in 1951; he was raised in Alnwick and now lives in Washington County Durham with his wife and son.
Joe is primarily a landscape artist who likes to paint in Acrylic, Oils and Watercolour and the countryside of Northern England has certainly inspired him. His paintings reflect his love of the countryside and he hopes that what he sees and feels is conveyed to the viewer. Originally he worked for Hardy Brothers of Alnwick making fishing tackle, a keen fisherman at the time; he combined his hobby with his work.
Joe, a self-taught artist, started to paint professionally in 1993. The business began by seeking out commissions of country houses and farms whilst out sketching. These commissions created many referrals and gave Joe the confidence to hold his own exhibitions in Chester-le-Street for many years to follow. This in turn led Joe to summit his work to Galleries and also to be asked if he would tutor evening classes for the W.E.A. (Workers Educational Association).
Joe was inspired by the beautiful countryside near his home town of Alnwick, in Northumberland. He has developed a fascination with the effect of sunlight and mist in his work, lending a unique atmosphere to many of his paintings. Joe has a great affection for the countryside and this sincere appreciation drives him to recreate this in his work. His success as a professional artist is a testament to his undoubted talent.
He now teaches others, tutoring art classes throughout the year for the W.E.A and the organisation MIND, at Chester-le-Street. He also does demonstrations and workshops for art clubs/societies throughout the North East. Joe has had articles printed in the Leisure Painter Magazine showing the process of paintings from beginning to end; he has also been featured in The Northumbria Magazine and The Journal.
Over the years Joe has had many of his evocative ‘snow scenes’ published as Christmas Cards.
