About The Artist

I am a Eugene based photographer and have been involved in photography nearly 20 years. I received my B.F.A. from the University of Oregon in 2000. Having grown up in Rochester, New York, home to the father of modern photography George Eastman, opportunity and access provoked a strong fascination with this medium. My first camera was a Kodak Brownie Hawkeye, given to me by my father. I remember getting back my first set of prints and realized that with this tool I had the ability to record moments in time, marking events and documenting a history of the things most important to me. While attending college, my focus and experience was black and white photography, I find black and white to be both the simplest and most sophisticated of photographic disciplines. Black and white photography has an inherent dignity, and the ability to transcend without limitations. I am inspired to invite the viewer into my world as a means of evoking a memory or brief encounter with the beauty that surrounds us. During my travels in Greece and Italy, I discovered the vibrancy of color and texture that seemed to define the exuberance of life and culture in those regions. I saw this as an opportunity to expand and incorporate the magnificence of color into my work, further exploring the beauty of form and balance through texture and light.
