About The Artist
Artist Statement “My creative soul was inspired by a desire to evoke my emotions at the deepest level with vibrantly colored swirls that exude off the canvas and into the heart of the viewer.”
Renea Menzies’ abstract art has audacious influences that are inspired by the many facets of her eccentricity. While she is a native Texan, Renea has been blessed with the opportunity to travel to some of the world’s most exotic locations. Her style of art is profoundly enthused by the abundance of cultures she experienced throughout her life.
Renea uses a pallet knife to unify a multiplicity of colors as she shifts the paint around the canvas. The result creates a 3-D appearance as she meticulously contours the paint. Art aficionados say her utilization of oils produces a thick buttery appearance analogous to ribbon candy.
Renea’s sculpted oil paintings exhibit the intricate marriage of modus operandi and color that carries her work to life and inspires movement of the imagination in a textured oasis. Her artistic aptitude as part painter and part sculptor are truly remarkable as is evident in the complexity of her art. With each swirl Renea carries the viewer on an extraordinarily poignant journey.
Renea aspires for her art to evoke eternal emotion to her viewers. An aphorism that continues to keep Renea mesmerized and inspired is by Maya Angelo, “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you do, but people will never forget how you make them feel.”
“My intention is not to replicate nature in its entirety, but to vibrantly portray the distinctive form and movement of each petal and leaf. I sculpt and texturize to reflect both the luminous light and the esoteric shadow of each individual floret. My ambition, to convey life as it is echoed in the detail of each heavily textured flower, bringing exclusivity and vitality to every piece.”
A mother-of-two resides in Houston, Texas. Painting is a complete release for her – she lets her imagination run wild on canvas, and her free-spirited way of looking at the world is reflected in the mirage of colors that exude from her paintings.
