About The Artist
Jovan Karlo Villalba (b. Quito, Ecuador; 1977) was raised in Miami, Florida. He is an alumnus of the Cooper Union School of Art (BFA) in NYC. In 2001, Jovan acquired his first art studio in NYC's Chelsea Art District. Soon after, he began to exhibit his work at nearby galleries. In 2006, Jovan moved his practice to a larger studio space in Long Island City. There, he created work that would be included in exhibitions at numerous galleries in NYC and Miami, and was featured at the Queens International Biennial in the Queens Museum of Art.
Over the past 7 years, Jovan has exhibited his work at galleries, fairs, cultural institutions and museums throughout the United States, including having solo shows in New York, California and Florida. His work has been published and collected worldwide. In February 2013, Jovan was featured in a documentary titled "Imagination Unleashed: An Artisan's Journey" that aired nationally on Ovation TV. He presently lives and works in his hometown, Miami.
