Artist statement
?
The joy of painting comes naturally for me. I’ve always been drawn to beautiful things, especially things with lots of color. I am fascinated by abstract, visionary, surreal, psychedelic and fantasy works. I’ve never accepted ordinary surroundings as the only view to perceive. I am convinced there is more to everything than meets the eye.
Knowing (since a child) I would some day become an artist… It wasn’t until April, 2005, my circumstances allowed me to pursue my destiny. In a place I fondly refer to as the “Country House”, I began to explore the joy of slinging paints, and watching them flow and blend together.
For me, there is nothing more rewarding than the process of creation. I manipulate colored oils and textures, and force them to collide and blend on canvas. When the colors find their place within the textures, and their movement is permanently stopped in time, my work is finished. The end result for me represents a satisfying balance of beauty, emotion, and energy.
I’m a self-taught artist. My tools of choice are often an old rag, or discarded piece of paper. With these tools I create 99% of all my abstract works. I find an old rag to be a very useful and versatile painting tool.
My abstract work represents freedom. I am free to do whatever I want! Whatever mood is happening at that moment, I just let it happen on canvas. People often ask me; what exactly is it I paint?
My answer is… I paint feelings.
