Oil on linen, 100 x 100 cm. Painting by Valery Koroshilov (2010) Artists & Illustrators Magazine, UK voted this painting the overall winner of The Artist of The Year Competition 2010. Valery Koroshilov explains it: "The idea of this picture originates from my intention to pay a tribute to Andrea Mantegna, whose relatively small painting Ecce Homo, ca. 1500, now in Paris, made a great impression on me. Following Mantegna’s compositional structure, I nevertheless reduced the religious content to a mere symbolism, and focused instead on expressing the subtleties of the human emotion. My son Philip acted as a model."
