• Title: Rothkophant • Medium: life size baby elephant – acrylic, metal leafing, and resin on fiberglass sculpture • Year: 2011 • Dimensions: 6 ft x 6ft • Additional details: Elephant Parade USA - international public art exhibition for saving endangered Asian elephants. Rothkophant was inspired by Mark Rothko, one of the 20th Century’s most important artists is a tragic story of genius and loss generally caused by external circumstances. I wanted to create a design to invoke the legend and legacy of Rothko’s optimistic spirit in the Rothko style in this design. Elephants will meet the same end unless we ALL do what we can to save them. As an American artist helping this great cause to save endangered Asian elephants, I thought he might have appreciated my endeavor to celebrate his life in this execution.
