Kayleen Horsma / Individual Artist Kayleen describes her preference to paint simple strokes, letting them mature into figures that are emphasized by the intentions of chiaroscuro. Having studied the strong contrasts of light and shadow, she finds enjoyment in the process of this technique. Initially inspired by natural tones of watercolor paintings using light as a source to capture the mood of its subject, her work has evolved to studying rich brush works with deep contrast in hue to highlight the essence of its focal point resulting in loose but believable oil paintings .
