About The Artist

Alexandra Momin is a New York City based artist interested in the encounter between different mediums and the evocative allusions that emerge from their overlap. Focusing on the ever-changing landscape of the city, she challenges our perception of our environment by creating textured, layered scenes by digitally compositing photographs with scrambled video stills. Her photography background and interest in movement and color merge with her use of video, which was scrambled due to a chance encounter with faulty software. Using this “beautiful mistake” became an allegory for the city’s complex and multifarious façades. The images are printed with UV inks directly to either acrylic or aluminum, which add a material presence and become part of the landscape. Her work has been exhibited in the United States and Europe, notably at The Parrish Art Museum, Water Mill, NY, Roger Smith Hotel, New York City, Curious Matter Gallery, Jersey City, NJ and Raum 18, Berlin, Germany.
