About The Artist
Alejandro Ortiz was born in Talca, Chile, in 1971. Currently he lives and works in Santiago de Chile. Is a graduated painter from the University of Chile. He also has other studies in graphic design from the University Diego Portales and from the Profesional Institute Santo Tomas.
As an artist, he has received among others different distinctions: honours on Anteproyectos de Arte Contest for the Public Space: "Arte para la Ciencia”, organised by the CONICIT on 2013; 2nd honours award for Tanagra Salon Group, Chillán on 2013; 1st place on Painting contest of “Valdivia y Su Río”; Chilean selected on Iberoamericano de Pintura Contest for Fundación Aerolíneas Argentinas, Argentina; 1st honours award on contest Internacional de Pintura “Valdivia y su Río”, In-situ category on 2002; honours award on contest Nacional de Pintura “El color del Sur”; honours award on contest Internacional de Pintura “Valdivia y su Río”, por envío category on 2000; 1st honours award on contest Internacional de Pintura “Valdivia y su Río”, In-situ category on 1999; 1st place on contest Nacional de Pintura Pintando Melipilla on 1999: 2nd place on contest Nacional de Pintura “El Caballo Chileno” on 1995.
Individually, he has exposed five different painting exhibitions, from these, the highlights are: "Mirada Local", carried during the month of October 2005 at the Espacio Cultural Arcos gallery in Santiago; "Trabajos de Pintura", during July 2002 at the Artes "Moneda" hall in the Instituto Chileno Norteamericano de Cultura and at the "Ante-Sala" hall in the Viña del Mar Municipality. And collectively, he has participated in exhibitions throughout Chile and also in Argentina, Perú, Brasil, España, Francia, México, Dinamarca y Argelia.
In 2008, he was invited by the City of Livry Gargan, París, Francia. To carry out a large format painting where is actually and permanently displayed in the Municipal building.
In present, he is a representative member of the Chilean Painters and Sculptors Association, APECH, in the commission of Nemesio Antúnez, entity that groups four ministries and four trade associations whose task is to bring art to the public space of the country.
