About The Artist


Jin Powell received her BFA from Central Academy of Fine Art in Beijing, China in 1985, subsequently studying at Johnson Atelier Technical Institute of Sculpture in 1993-1995 with the direction of famed sculptor Stewart Johnson, Mercerville, NJ. She received MFA from Memphis College of Art, Memphis, TN. In 1996, she established Icon Atelier--casting bronze sculpture and fabrication art ,studio with her husband John Powell, located in Memphis, TN. 1999, she won the sculpture competition to complete a bronze bas-relief with celebrates voting rights for minority men "14th and 15th Amendment", now part of the permanent collection for the Tennessee State Capitol building in Nashville, TN. Recently, Jin's subjects are framed by human rights abuses, memory and erased historical narratives.
