About The Artist
Melissa Gale Fox [American] is most known for her diverse yet visionary concepts she incorporates into her work. Melissa took an interest in art at an early age, while attending lessons through still life oil painting taught by her neighbor Carolyn Seale. Oil was the first medium she used as a child. Melissa began working with acrylic noting it was easier to work with and dried faster thus relieving her eagerness in the drying process. A well-known piece and Family favorite called (Mona Lisa’s Dream’s, 2018) meticulously resembles that of Leonardo DA Vinci’s (Mona Lisa,1503-1506). In honor of Melissa’s Comanche Indian heritage, She put feathers on her head and bubbles in the background to lighten the mood of the piece.
Melissa uses numerous techniques making it look simple to shift from one to another. A technique called “soak Staining” invented by Helen Frankenthaler captured her attention while working under the instruction of her sister, Dr. Lillian Love Kennedy PHD. Melissa also enjoys the work of the visual Artist by the name of Gerhard Richter, particularly impressed by his Abstract Expressionist techniques.
Melissa finds great peace and solitude while painting,” she states, also mentioning “the uninterrupted thoughts are what inspires me to create my most accomplished pieces”.
Melissa enjoys finding new techniques and ideas for paintings that are not yet fully exposed.
(Christina’s World, 1948-48), by Andrew Wyeth portrays a girl lying in a field imprisoned by her own disability. Melissa became inspired with a sentiment to free her from all constraints so she she placed her on another planet in her rendition stating she felt a sense of accomplishment.
Melissa wants to push Art to the edge of reality,” by “imagining the unseen and what lay on the other side”.
Melissa finds inspiration walking through the nature (woods) finding great solitude and elucidation there. Melissa begins each piece often guided by something as humble as the color on her brush”. Melissa's hopes are that people feel a certain peace, while transcending viewers to the unaccounted realm through her Art.
