Tea Bowls
Marcus Wolak
This tea bowl was thrown in my small pottery workshop here in Taiwan. I used a local Taiwanese clay body and then applied a traditional Japanese shino glaze. A shino glaze is a rich warm orange and slightly white color. While throwing the bowl, I wanted to create a unique chawan that embodied character. I believe good tea bowls tell a story. This one could be said to say, I show the scars of life, but I am still here, proud. I love making tea bowls as each is different and develops its own character as the clay moves through the hands. I dusted Taiwanese wood ash over sections of the bowl to add more interest to the glaze. Be the owner of a handmade tea bowl from the beautiful island of Taiwan.
