About The Artist
Karen Cattell was born in Vancouver. She has always had a passion for art. As an adolescent, she would sketch portraits of her friends and fictitious characters with trendy and inventive hairstyles. It thus came to no surprise that she became a hairstylist. This gave her the opportunity to explore her creative abilities, and was able to enjoy an exciting career.
Art was never put totally aside because she always painted whenever the opportunity would allow. Karen is a self taught artist which gave her the freedom to have an eclectic education. In 1988, she pursued her interest in Decorative Art and attended numerous workshops and classes in the U.S.as well as B.C. over a 12 year period.
She continued to seek and participate in new methods of painting and other creative art forms. Her personal style evolved over time and she credits her natural surroundings as well as the world of imagination, which is visible in her whimsical portraits, to be her most valuable influences. Karen says, “I love to see my drawings come to life on canvas and I hope others will get a sense of the joy and fun I experience when they view my paintings.” She has shown in many exhibitions and her paintings are in private and corporate collections.
