About The Artist

With FrozenSteel as name, Wichert van Engelen makes bronze and steel sculptures in the Openbare Werkplaats Amsterdam. Wichert is not a conceptual artist. He stands for craftsmanship as an inseparable part of being an artist. Wichert realizes his bronze sculptures entirely himself: from concept / idea, via design, the making of ceramic and plaster molds, to the casting in bronze. The result: bronze statues with stunning detail. In the bronze statues, Wichert captures the beauty of natural details in a hyperrealistic way: The Splendor of Nature in the Power of Bronze. In addition, he regularly makes light excursions: Art with a Wink. In the steel statues, Wichert "freezes" movement in the hard material. Skating and cycling are regularly recurring themes.
