THE ARTIST BERNARD RANGEL
Bernard Rangel has a diverse cultural origin which is clearly seen in his creative and unique work. He is a self-taught artist born in Aden, Yemen in 1957.
Educated in Dublin, Ireland from 1968 to 1980 he has benefitted from influences from the West and East and the Northern and Southern Hemispheres.
Since 2004 he has shared his love of painting by organising and participating in paint workshops for underprivileged children in Brazil and in India.
His professional art career started in Hong Kong where he painted backdrops for the Hong Kong Amateur Ballet group. In 1985 he moved to Brazil where he painted household and commercial interiors, ceramics, bed linen, jeans, paper and on canvas. In 2009 he returned to London where he now lives on Fish Island in Hackney Wick. He works with acrylic, Indian ink and oils and uses a wide variety of colours. It is particularly his backgrounds which capture the attention of art lovers, the general public and other artists.
Bernard is the founder of the art movement Contemporary Tribal Surrealism. He has exhibited in Dublin, Sao Paulo, Bahia, Rome, Hannover, London, Washington DC, Mumbai, New Delhi, Bremen, Florence and New York City.
Besides painting he also works in a digital formats and this allows for a wider manipulation of his creative ideas.
